In a heartwarming gesture of community upliftment, the Deputy Prime Minister, Senator Thulisile Dladla, officially handed over three newly constructed houses to vulnerable families in partnership with Maloma Colliery Limited and the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA).
The housing initiative, valued at over E600,000, forms part of a larger project of seven units aimed at restoring dignity, security, and stability to Eswatini’s most vulnerable citizens.
The handover ceremony, which took place at Siphofaneni, began with the official presentation of a two-roomed home to 90-year-old Gogo Elizabeth Myeni, whose house had been destroyed by fire. Expressing heartfelt gratitude, her family described the house as a “legacy and a symbol of restored dignity.”
Speaking at the event, Senator Dladla emphasized that these homes are not just structures of brick and mortar but symbols of hope, care, and unity. She highlighted that the initiative aligns with His Majesty King Mswati III’s call to transform lives through impactful, people-driven projects.
Maloma Colliery’s CSI Chairperson, Myzo Magagula, reiterated the company’s commitment to not only mining coal but also uplifting communities. “Our success lies in recognizing the importance of giving back to our host communities. This is about building a stronger Eswatini,” she said.
The remaining four houses under the project are nearing completion and will be officially handed over in due course.
This partnership between government and the private sector serves as a beacon of hope, ensuring that vulnerable families are not left behind in the nation’s journey toward sustainable development.
